It involves little-to-no downtime (i.e. physical restrictions). You can return to your normal activities within hours.
You can mask any slight peeling by using a light moisturizer.
It is safe for all types of skin tones.
Am I a Good Candidate for the Treatment?
As mentioned previously, the VI Peel is safe and effective for all skin types. In fact, it can even be used on 12 year-old patients. In addition, is just as effective on darker skin tones (i.e. African Americans, Asians, Middle Eastern and Hispanic), which in the past received fewer benefits from chemical peels than those with lighter skin tones.
What is the Procedure?
A VI Peel is normally performed at dermatology clinic, medical spa or plastic surgeon’s office by a licensed esthetician, registered nurse, surgeon or dermatologist. In the past, chemical peels, like the VI Peel, consisted of preconditioning; today that precaution is no longer needed. It normally takes approximately 30 minutes to apply the chemical solution to the top of your skin. Following the application, you are sent home with the peel still on your skin (i.e. face). The VI Peel remains on your skin for approximately 5 hours, after which it is washed off with warm water. It is important to note that you may experience slight burning and/or stinging during the procedure, but thankfully this side-effect quickly subsides. This peel may need to be repeated every 2 weeks, depending on your desired outcome, or you may only need 1 initial treatment, followed by follow-up peels every 12 to 16 weeks to maintain your youthful glow.
How Long Will It Take Me To Recover?
You may notice red or tanned skin, following a VI Peel. Do not worry – this is a normal skin reaction to the treatment. This side-effect should subside within hours of the procedure. You should also be able to return to your normal routine, however avoid rigorous activities like exercising, packing, etc., until you the peel has been washed off. In addition, refrain from applying make-up during the peeling stage. When does the peeling stage begin? Well, it normally starts on the 3rd day, following the procedure and persist for approximately a week. During the peeling stage, your skin may be slightly sensitive; therefore it is advised that you avoid sun exposure, when possible. Use a hypo-allergenic cream, if you need to moisturize your skin during this time.
When Should I See Results?
You should see noticeable results (i.e. an overall improvement in skin tone and texture and/or a reduction in skin imperfections) within 72 hours. You will more than likely experience a youthful “glow” within a week, following the treatment.
How Much Does the VI Peel Cost?
Well, the cost typically depends on location and procedure, but generally a VI Peel costs between $400.00 and 600.00 or more, per treatment session. Additional costs can incur, if you decide to use the VI Derm Skin Care System for maintenance. VI Peel aftercare products typically costs between $35.00 and $100.00.
Will My Health Insurance Cover the Cost?
Well, truthfully, your health insurance may cover the cost, but it is not guaranteed. In most situations, chemical peels are not considered “medically necessary,” therefore it is typically not covered by many insurance companies. It is important to contact your insurance company, in advance, to determine if you will be required to pay out-of-pocket for this procedure.
