Hydrate Your Skin from Inside Out!

Drinking-WaterHydration boosters are essential to healthy skin and it is our responsibility to consume enough to prevent skin moisture depleting and causing dull, lifeless and wrinkled skin. Need help on what to consume? We have a few items to add to your grocery list!

But first, some major moisture depleting culprits to make sure to avoid are alcohol, junk food and caffeine. Alcohol is dehydrating since it pulls water and liquid out of the cells. The effects of too much alcohol are often seen on the skin from a missing healthy glow. Junk foods like processed meats, refined carbs and sugary snacks don’t provide skin cells with the oils or fats needed to keep the skin hydrated and looking healthy. Additionally, caffeine (like alcohol) can cap the body of much needed internal moisture. It is a diuretic, but the skin effects of caffeine are usually not noticed as quickly as they are with alcohol.

On the flip side, major hydration boosters (the good guys!) are spinach, omega-3 and berries. Spinach is high vitamin A, which starves off dryness. Green vegetables like cucumbers, pack a serious dose of silica to keep skin hydrated and elastic. Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon, tuna, olive oil, avocado, walnuts and flax seed moisturize the skin and plump lines and wrinkles. Berries of all varieties contain skin-protecting vitamins and antioxidants to strengthen the skin barrier. Also, constantly drinking water hydrates from the inside out, flooding skin cells with moisture and restoring the natural barrier function.

Be good to your skin and give it the time, attention and moisture it craves! Once you incorporate these major hydration boosters into your daily routine we guarantee you’ll notice a difference in your skin and will have formed a habit for life!
